Started with an individual carrying a bucket of ‘Sherbet and Fruits’ to masjid during the month of Ramzan for less privileged people in the society. The Daily Dasterkhawn came into being and continued even after the month of Ramzan.
An individual working as Laborers, Masons, Security Guard, Helper, etc. hardly earns around 15000 to 18000 rupees. Coming from the rural area to seek employment in urban cities these people have to provide for the accommodation and food expenses.
Al-Maida (Trust) serves free food at its dasterkhawn as it is one of the best ways to financially support these low income individuals. Where an individual spends at least 160 rupees per day on foods, Al-Maida provides them with the opportunity to save this expense which equals to a significant amount of PKR 4,160 (160*26) more than 27% of their total income. This benefit is directly transferred to the guests coming daily to the dasterkhawn. This raise of 27% in their income can then be utilized to manage a better living standard for their families. Imagine an increase of 27% in your current earning and its effect on your living standard?
